One lever is far bigger than the rest, and two outside awards are worth real money because they ignore income. Everything past that is need-judged or noise, and this page says which is which rather than listing forty scholarships at you.
You need to close about $40,000 a year. Most outside scholarships are $1,000 to $5,000, one time, so stacking small awards does not get there.
Two outside awards are large enough to matter and, critically, do not look at income, which is what usually kills your applications at $300k. The Biola Trustee Scholarship would have been the single biggest lever, but that chase is dropped as of 8/23, kept below as background rather than a plan.
$20,000, 150 awards, and they state outright that "financial circumstances are not considered at any stage." That makes it one of the very few big national awards your household income does not kill. Minimum 3.0 GPA, judged on leadership, academics and service. Applications open in August of senior year, so it is open now.
Owner: Cooper, before Point Loma's Nov 15Full tuition, roughly 10 awarded a year, on a separate application due mid-January, behind a published score floor: 1500 SAT, 34 ACT, or 110 CLT, plus a 3.8 GPA.
Cooper, verbatim: "i'm not getting the full ride to biola.. and it's expensive bro." The Trustee chase is off. What follows stays on the page as reasoning, not a to-do. Your 4.0 clears the 3.8 GPA bar. A 1470 does not clear the 1500 SAT bar, by 30 points. Confirmed, biola.edu/trustee-scholarship
| What you pay now, with the automatic President's $24,500 | ~$40,800 / yr |
|---|---|
| What you would pay with the Trustee, once the score clears | ~$12,370 / yr |
| What it is actually worth to you | ~$28,400 / yr |
| Over four years | ~$113,600 |
This site previously implied the Trustee was worth about $53,000 a year on top of your existing award. It is not additive. It replaces your normal academic scholarship. Biola's catalog states the Trustee award "will replace the student's normal academic scholarship and Biola University Award eligibility."
So the real gain, if it were ever pursued, is the difference between the two: about $28,400 a year rather than $53,000, roughly $113,600 over four years.
It is judged on academic excellence, character, community involvement and Christian maturity, at a school whose average admit is a 3.54. A real church background and a business you built and run would have made this a genuinely strong file if the score cleared. That is no longer the plan; Biola stands on its own $40,800/yr automatic tier instead. Deadlines are on the apply page.
The usual reason outside scholarships disappoint is that schools claw them back, reducing your aid by the amount you win. That clawback normally applies to need-based aid, and you have none. At roughly $300k of income your package is pure merit, so outside awards should stack cleanly on top.
This is the mechanic that determines whether chasing outside money is worth any effort at all. Unverified It needs one call to each aid office asking how outside scholarships are treated when a package has no need-based component.
Ask before you spend a weekend on applications, not after. Add Pepperdine to that call list and ask it first, because at Pepperdine you also have to ask what the institutional award even is.
Baylor pays the largest published automatic award on the whole list: $32,000 a year, for your entry year, with no separate application. Its Nov 1 Early Action also unlocks invitation-only scholarship events that typically want a 1420, and you have a 1470. It is still not the cheapest school, because a big award subtracted from a bigger sticker leaves you about $12,000 a year above Biola. The Baylor numbers.
Correction, 8/23: Pepperdine's Early Decision is worth $2,000, not the $25,000 an earlier version of this site claimed. Their admissions FAQ states ED "includes an exclusive $2,000 scholarship," so ruling it out for Early Action cost a small guaranteed award, not a merit floor. Pepperdine does publish real numbers elsewhere, three of them, and they do not agree with each other. Why one phone call decides whether Pepperdine is real.
Sorted by deadline, with the column that actually decides things: does this award judge financial need? At $300k that answers most of the page.
The Biola Trustee is no longer in play, so this table is now the real plan, not a fallback behind it.
The effort order:
| Deadline | Award | Money | Need judged? | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sept 30, 2026 | Coca-Cola Scholars | $20,000 ร 150 | No | The most urgent deadline in your whole college process. Open now. Min 3.0 GPA, judged on leadership, academics, service. "Financial circumstances are not considered at any stage" |
| Oct 15 to Dec 15 | Burger King Scholars | $1,000 to $60,000 | Yes | Closes at 30,000 applications or Dec 15. Weighs work experience, a real hook for a business owner |
| Oct 31, 2026 | VFW Voice of Democracy | $35,000 top, every state winner $1,000+ | No | An audio-essay, a recorded speech submitted through a local VFW Post. $2.3M awarded a year across 50,000+ entrants, but the state-level floor makes the odds far better than the headline |
| Oct 31, 2026 | BigFuture Scholarships | $500 monthly draws | No | College Board. No essay. Entries earned by completing college-planning steps, and you are already in their system from the SAT |
| Nov 12, 2026 | Elks Most Valuable Student | $1,000 to $7,500/yr, top 20 get $30,000 | Yes, explicitly | 500 national semi-finalists. Need is a stated judging criterion |
| Nov 30, 2026 | BigFuture Scholarships | up to $40,000 | No | Second BigFuture deadline, same no-essay mechanic |
| Jan 11, 2027 | JFK Profile in Courage Essay | to ~$10,000 | No | Essay on an act of political courage by a US elected official serving during or after 1917 |
| ~Feb 2027, club level | Optimist International Essay | $2,500 district | No | Runs through local Optimist clubs, and club deadlines precede the district round |
| Apr 6, 2027 national | American Legion Oratorical | $25,000 first | No | Public speaking, $203,500 awarded overall. Local contests run much earlier, typically January and February |
| Quarterly | Ayn Rand Institute Essays | up to $25,000 | No | Write on one of Rand's novels. Multiple deadlines a year, so a missed one is not fatal. Low effort if you read the book |
| Rolling | NFIB Young Entrepreneur | $2,000 to $15,000, ~100 awards | No | Requires demonstrated ownership and operation of a business. Your single best-matched award |
| Verify dates | Santoro Young Entrepreneur | varies | No | Explicitly open to homeschool graduates, requires a revenue-generating business run 1+ years. Nearly a description of you. One source says apps open Sept 2027, possibly a cycle late |
The Cameron Impact Scholarship is four years of full tuition, fees and books, 15 awarded, minimum 3.7 unweighted GPA. It would be the second-biggest award on this page.
But listings show the Class of 2027 cycle closing at 3,000 applications or May 1, 2026, which has passed. Likely missed Confirm with the foundation before assuming either way, in case a later cycle exists.
Need-based, dead at $300k regardless of your stats: Jack Kent Cooke, QuestBridge, Horatio Alger and the Gates Scholarship. These are precisely the four names well-meaning people will tell you to apply for. Screening them out saves you more hours than any single listing saves you dollars.
Elks Legacy Awards ($4,000) are restricted to children and grandchildren of Elks members. Worth asking your parents once, because it is $4,000 for a form if there is a family connection.
HSLDA contest scholarships were discontinued in 2024, so being homeschooled is not itself a money hook. Your business is.
The $500 to $1,000 no-essay sweepstakes tier was excluded on purpose. A literally exhaustive list is thousands of lottery-odds entries, and publishing it would waste your time rather than save it.
A 4.0 and a 1470 are common in national scholarship pools. Everyone applying has them. A 17-year-old who owns and operates a business with real revenue is rare and provable.
Lead with mc-tools.net every time, including on the awards above that are not entrepreneurship-specific. It is the only thing on your application that almost nobody else in the pile has.
You sent this link, and it does aggregate outside scholarships, which is exactly what you asked for. The catch is that it requires an InsideCBU login, so it only works once you are an enrolled Cal Baptist student.
Useful from day one if you pick CBU. Unusable during the application year. Everything in the tiers above is what you do in the meantime.
HSLDA discontinued its contest scholarships in 2024, and their remaining significant award is tied to attending Patrick Henry College.
Being homeschooled is not a money hook for you. Your business is.
The open question here was whether the PSAT/NMSQT put him near National Merit, which is one of the very few credentials that unlocks large, automatic, income-blind money. He sat it and the score was not close, so National Merit is off the table.
That is worth knowing rather than worth regretting, for two reasons. It settles the only variable that could have beaten the Trustee, so this page no longer has a maybe in it and the plan below is the plan. And colleges never see a PSAT score: it exists only to qualify for National Merit. What Biola and Point Loma actually read is the 1470, which is what earns the money.
